Red Wave

RED WAVE - handbrushed and thick impasto oil on reinforced cotton duck canvas, wood, metal, etc.
(25" x 37" x 4")
Private Collection / L.A.

Serious rumor says that President Mikail Gorbachev, during a state dinner in Moscow, leaned toward President Reagan, and started asking questions through his interpreter about a controversial L.A. artist with the initial R.R.R. Mr. Reagan said he didn't know the artist, but he'd find out. And so... the artist in question now has one of biggest F.B.I. files in the country.
Shortly after this little incident, President Reagan wrote a short note to R.R.R., thanking the artist for sending him a book of elaborate pencil drawings about Ireland. Soon afterwards, Reagan got into "Air Force One", and went on "vacation" to Ireland. The artist knows he wanted to see the reality that had been so well rendered in the book of drawings. Meanwhile, R.R.R. continued to struggle and starve in L.A. Despite a growing reputation, his art was still too strong and controversial for sheep to safely own. "Red Wave" is one of exceptions here. It was purchased by a savvy capitalist who had no qualms about buying into the essence of socialism. And the "evil empire"? Well...not only is it over there somewhere, but it's also here, Just look around, "comrade".

Capitan of the Ship

Captain Of The Ship (flag portion) – hand brushed and heavy impasto oil paint on reinforced cotton duck canvas board, metal, resin
(27"x 38" x 4")

The oil painting is a portrait of U.S. power, it's also a portrait of the man sitting in the Oval Office. The painting is hemorrhaging in the lower left-wing corner. This is the Corporate America fostering fascism in lieu of democracy. Beware this beauty, it's treacherous.

Firecracker's Mistress

FIRECRACKER'S MISTRESS handbrushed and heavy impasto oil on reinforced cotton duck canvas.
(25" x 36" x 5")

One Fourth of July the starving artist was partying down, down, down on the beach, celebrating that boisterous holiday with Bill Czappa, the artist's best friend in Los Angeles. Smoke was so thick that it was difficult to breathe. But no big deal! Everyday in L.A. is a day difficult to breathe. Indeed! Staying alive is a challenge.
Oh say can you see the land of free and home of the brave? Probably not! But... if you close your eyes and search your memory, you might see it. Yes... it was America long before the Europeans arrived. Back then, America was truly the land of the free and the home of the brave! Today... it is not!

Japaneasy

JAPANEASY - handbrushed and heavy impasto oil on reinforced cotton duck canvas, wood, metal, etc.
(32"x 31" x 3.5")

This painting captures the essence and the magnificence of Japan. It also reveals their vulnerability. Presently... the Japanese are busy trying to be America, but with one major difference. If Americans have a propensity for innovation, the Japanese will improve it. This is not necessarily a good thing, nor is it a fault. Tradition and geographical limitations have made the Japanese be what they are now. It's the same for all peoples everywhere. We're the product of our environments, and it's one of the reason why human kind resents and fears mother nature. Hanging directly beneath this painting, you'll find hearts of robots. It's a new species being born, the only way human can escape planet. Beware!

Irish Linen

IRISH LINENhandbrushed and heavy impasto oil on reinforced cotton duck canvas, resin, wood, metal, etc.
(25"x 37" x 5")

One day... artist found himself visiting a flag shop with "Goldstein". As you all know, the artist and his "guardian" were discussing various strategies for subverting the current paradigm on Planet Birth. During the course of the visit, Roehl observed a Union Jack flag printed on irish linen. "Goldstein", an ardent supporter of the Irish Republican Army (and 50 or 60 guerrilla groups on Planet Birth) thought it would make a cool painting. And so... Roehl painted "Irish Linen". It shows the beauty and complete irrelevance of tribe-all egos. The starving artist celebrates all tribes, but belong to none of them. This probably explains why everybody is shooting at him.

Lone Star

LONE STAR - handbrushed oil on stretched cotton duck canvas, wood, metal, etc.
(25" x 38" X 5")

The artist doesn't like Texas... or the violent, arrogant KKKulture that festers there. He much prefers Paris (the one in France). However... this does not mean, mean, mean that Texas is a bad or ugly place. This beautiful painting shows Texas in all of its magnificence and glory. Texas is truly a "Lone Star"... even in America!
